Who we are
Carvalho and Good (CGLA) is an award-winning landscape architecture and urban design firm creating inviting, enduring, and sustainable environments. Based out of Washington, D.C. with a location in Miami, FL, CGLA translates 26 years of experience into a diverse array of projects including schools, federal, historic, parks/ recreation, and multi-family residential.
Our Philosophy: As landscape architects and designers we begin with an understanding of each site. We move forward with great care towards sustainability and collaboration to balance our design approach with sound technical knowledge, historical foundations, and innovative instincts. Our design style is one of response to the unique challenges presented by each project. We engage the physical and technical requirements of a project and create opportunities for human and social interactions. We aim to design spaces in which our lives are conducted and to that end, create inviting, enduring, and sustainable environments.

Bruno Carvalho, ASLA, AICP | Principal
During his diverse career in urban design, master planning, and landscape architecture, Bruno Carvalho has been engaged in a wide variety of projects throughout the United States and abroad including the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, Chicago, Atlanta, West Virginia, California, South Florida, and the Caribbean. As a registered landscape architect in Maryland and Virginia, as well as an AICP-certified planner, Bruno is well-versed in a broad range of professional design experiences from intimate personal landscapes to big-picture master plans.
His success as a design professional stems from emphasizing a collaborative approach to projects, building long-lasting relationships with clients, and a passion for great design. Mr. Carvalho is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where he was the first landscape architecture student to graduate from their acclaimed Urban Affairs and Planning School located in Old Town, Alexandria, VA. His career in Architecture started at Stephenson+Good, where he had the opportunity to work alongside Robert Good, his mentor, and friend.
Mr. Carvalho's work strives to reach the optimum solution for each unique project, with the idea that no two design solutions are alike. As principal of CGLA, Mr. Carvalho is personally involved in every project undertaken by the firm.
Brian Stephenson, ASLA | Design Director
Mr. Stephenson is a registered landscape architect and planning professional with comprehensive experience in site planning and landscape architecture for public, private, and institutional clients. In practice in metropolitan Washington, DC since 1983, Mr. Stephenson is known for design excellence and client service. As director of the firm’s design and management team, Mr. Stephenson is responsible for the overall progress and quality of each project.
Mr. Stephenson's reputation for excellence in design has been recognized with national and local awards from the U.S. Government, state government, and professional associations, including a national Honor Award from the General Services Administration in the 1992 design honors program and a National Merit Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects. Mr. Stephenson is qualified as a historical landscape architect and a cultural landscape architect by the National Park Service. His projects have been certified to silver and gold LEED standards by the US Green Building Council.
Mr. Stephenson’s experience includes management of the public review processes for projects in Washington, DC. He has successfully represented client’s interests to the US Commission of Fine Arts, the National Capital Planning Commission, the DC Historic Preservation Review Board, the DC Board of Zoning Adjustment, and has worked with many Advisory Neighborhood Commissions in the District.
Stephanie Bille, ASLA | Senior Landscape Architect
Stephanie Bille has over fifteen years of experience as a diverse landscape architect. Her broad focus includes a variety of clients including municipal, Federal, institutional and private sectors. As a Senior Landscape Architect of the firm, she leads our project team and has responsibilities for design coordination with other team members and consultants, client contact, project document development and design quality control. Mrs. Bille has extensive experience with on-call contracts and has led our team for the Maryland State Highway Administration on-call, where she developed two significant green street projects: Kenilworth Avenue and Talbert Lane. She is knowledgeable and experienced in the development of technical elements and has a proven record of coordinating the design development of landscape and hardscape elements with local agencies, divisions, consultants, and local reviewing bodies and community groups.
Irina Koretsky, LEED AP | Landscape Designer
Irina brings a wealth of design excellence and graphic superiority to the CGLA team. Her artistic design expressions excite clients and open up a wide variety of creative opportunities for our designs. Irina's creativity in design is equally matched with her passion and capabilities for graphic excellence. Ms. Koretsky is responsible for the firm's 3D modeling, rendering, and amazing graphic capabilities. Irina is a LEED AP professional.
